The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which operates to save the United Kingdom's small music venues.

The star was awarded the award on October 16 as his latest record the album was chosen as the best record of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the crucial part local spots played in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it weren't for all the shows I played around the area, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the MVT in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by adding a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also took part, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous local spots across Britain.

The donation supported spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained funding support in modernizing amenities and technical equipment that helped musicians and audiences.

"The notion that funds from concerts in big venues helps the independent spots, where it all starts for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has said.

Also 1994 winners the group gave their award to a MS organization after a close contact was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," stated singer Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we didn't need the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected two grassroots venues in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were acquired under the Own Our Venues initiative, which is supported by the arts council and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
